Robotic dogs are among the tactics researchers in Bradford are testing to assess how artificial intelligence can help predict and tackle wildfires. A team at the University of Bradford plans to use data gathered by the four-legged androids along with drones and 6G connectivity to spot the first signs of smoke and send alerts to emergency teams.

The quadruped robot, which is Boston Dynamics’ Spot dog, collected 45,000+ photos, walked 100+ miles, and mapped four floors in the process. It documented 125,000 square feet of roofing and scanned 500,000 square feet of interiors.

NASA is training a dog-shaped robot named LASSIE-M for missions on Mars. The goal of NASA researchers is to develop a robot that can scale rocky or sandy terrain, both of which can be hazardous to a rover.

It's part of a special project that's using new tech to help manage and protect forests, and is being tested in woodlands around the world.
